specifically for this book. The young lady, Moriah Falde is a natural for this pose as she loves horses. And the horse is my very own, Trigger. He's a 16 hands Tennesse Walker that you may have seen his debut on my FB page when we go riding. So, the cover is rather special to me.

The book was so much fun to write. I loved creating the two young girls and their curly hair and being raised by their big brother. Some of that fodder came from my nieces who had extremely curly hair.
I couldn't have written 19th century horse ailment and treatment so well if it hadn't been for our wonderful vet, John Chappell. He helped me determine what kind of illness the horse might have and the outcome. He also collects antique veterinarian books which he let me use to know how a horse would truly be treated by a vet in the late 1800's.
I never know where I'm going to find the little jewels for my stories. But I will warn you, if I know you... ;)

DeleteThe cover is absolutely beautiful! And I LOVE that your horse is named Trigger! I didn’t watch Roy Rogers growing up, but my husband did and now we’ve introduced it to our kids (9 and 6). They love Roy Rogers and Trigger!
ReplyDeleteOH I love it! We have 4 horses. Our first two were Remington and Magnum, named after guns. Then we got Trigger who was already named. When I heard his name, I knew he was for us!

ReplyDeleteConnie, I hear that often of my characters. But I try to pull from real life. Not the exact circumstances but try to put the same frustrations and challenges in my stories as I have gone through or seen others go through. I hope that it will make my stories more real.

ReplyDeleteOH my goodness! That is so cool. I think Veterinarian is at the top of my favorite list of professions. My vet retired since researching this book. I'm happy for his retirement but the community really misses him. His dad was a vet before him. A very cool story behind all that.
