Pirate of My Heart by Jamie Carie Ends October 10th

Born and raised in Vincennes, Indiana, Jamie is a preacher’s daughter. Road trips with her dad—to and from Bible studies across Indiana—were filled with talks of the Bible and the purpose of life. The highlight of those nights was stopping at a truck stop in the middle of the night where her dad spent a little of the offering basket on two slices of pie and a couple of Cokes. While being a preacher’s daughter molded her, it also gave her the impetus to live her dream of becoming a published author. In 1995 she began writing novels in earnest. After years of rejection letters, she was offered her first contract in 2006. Snow Angel was published and won ForeWord Magazine’s Romance Book of the Year, a USA Book News “Best Books 2007” Awards winner, and 2008 RITA® Awards Best First Book finalist. In 2010 Wind Dancer was a finalist in the Indiana State Library Best Books of Indiana. Romantic Times exclaimed, "Carie is a welcome voice in the inspirational fiction market." And, "Carie writes with her heart on every page of her books." Jamie has a passion for history and believes in the power of love stories. She lives with her husband and three boys in Indianapolis, Indiana. www.jamiecarie.com

Where are you right now (LVR, DR, Bathroom) and what are you wearing? You have to tell the truth. In my office. I am wearing black yoga shorts and a gray t-shirt. I also have my hair up in a clip because if I don’t do that I will twirl it until I have bald spots! I like to twirl when I’m concentrating.

What is the funniest or strangest or most interesting thing you’ve learned when researching your book? So many things! The most interesting thing I’ve learned lately is the behind the scenes peak into making one of my book covers. B&H Publishing had a video made for my next book, The Guardian Duke. It shows the cover model getting her hair and makeup done and then the photo shoot. It was awesome to see my character come to life! Here’s the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKt_iK5rSQw&feature=player_embedded

What is something that very few people know about you? I love to turn on worship music and dance before the Lord (but only if I’m the only one home!).

What is your favorite material item that you own (examples: ipod, Gone with the Wind book, grandmother’s rocking chair) Hmmm, that would probably have to be my latest pair of killer high heels. I have a thing for shoes.

What kinds of emotions go through you when you are writing such a strong and heart wrenching scene? I received some good advice from an agent once. He said, “cut your wrist and bleed into the work.” I rewrote the first chapter of Snow Angel (my first book) with that in mind and it sold soon after. It’s not an easy thing, writing with your heart on every page. It requires everything you’ve got – completely surrendering yourself to the fear, sadness, anger –love, joy, faith in the scene. It’s kind of like acting. I have to get in the character and be them for a little while for an intense scene to work.

What one thing on your writing journey influenced your work the most? My childhood! J I grew up with teaching tapes playing in the background. There was a constant flow of the Bible being taught which has given me a strong Biblical foundation from which I write. I thank God and my parents for that!

What one novel did you read that made you want to be a part of the story? Oh, so many! The first was probably Heidi or Little House on the Prairie. The most recent would be Midsummer Moon by Laura Kinsale (I’m rereading it for the tenth time) and lots and lots of wonderful stories from classics to romance novels in between.

If you could work with any author who would you choose? Without question, Laura Kinsale. I can only imagine what I would learn through that experience.

If you could have written any piece of literature in history, be it books, speech, poetry, what piece would you want to say Written By Authors Name here To be honest, my own books. J I feel incredibly blessed to have written them and think they are exactly my place in the world of stories. I can’t wait to get back to my current work in progress, A Duke’s Promise, out September 2012. It’s the conclusion of a three book series and I’m so excited to see what happens next!
Thanks for a great interview!
She gave up everything for a chance at true love...
When her doting father dies, Lady Kendra Townsend is given a choice: marry the horrid man of her uncle's choosing or leave England to risk a new life in America with unknown relatives. But this adventurous man has been wounded by love before and now guards his independent life.
He wasn't prepared to give up anything for anyone...
No swashbuckling man needs an English heiress with violet-hued eyes to make him feel again or challenge his faith with probing questions--or so he thinks. It is not until Dorian must save Kendra from the dark forces surrounding her that he decides she may be worth the risk.
